Global Stocks Rally moved higher on Friday as strong quarterly results from Microsoft and Amazon restored investor confidence in artificial intelligence related stocks. The upbeat earnings helped reignite interest in the AI sector after weeks of volatility, while currency markets remained focused on the Japanese yen following suspected government intervention and the Bank of Japan’s latest policy decision.
Technology shares led the advance, with Nasdaq 100 futures climbing more than 1%, while futures linked to the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average also traded higher. European equities reached fresh record levels, and South Korea’s stock market staged an impressive recovery after sharp losses earlier in the week.
AI Earnings Boost Global Market Sentiment
Investor confidence improved significantly after Microsoft projected continued strong cash generation through fiscal 2027, reinforcing expectations that its massive investments in artificial intelligence will deliver long term returns.
Amazon further strengthened market sentiment by reporting its fastest cloud computing revenue growth in more than four years. The results eased concerns that heavy spending on AI infrastructure might not translate into sustainable business growth.
The positive earnings from two of the world’s largest technology companies encouraged investors to return to AI focused stocks after recent market weakness.
Global Markets Extend Gains
European stocks continued their strong performance, with the STOXX 600 index reaching another record high and remaining on track for a fourth consecutive month of gains.
In the United States, Nasdaq 100 futures rose approximately 1.05%, while S&P 500 futures gained 0.32% and Dow futures added 0.45%.
South Korea’s KOSPI index surged nearly 18%, marking one of its strongest rebounds after significant declines earlier in the week. Although the index remains well below its historical peak, the recovery highlights the sharp shifts in investor sentiment surrounding AI and semiconductor stocks.
The MSCI All Country World Index also advanced around 0.8%, putting global equities on course to end a two week losing streak despite remaining slightly lower for the month overall.
Yen Swings After BOJ Policy Decision
Currency markets remained volatile after the Bank of Japan kept interest rates unchanged, a decision that initially strengthened the Japanese yen before the currency reversed course.
The U.S. dollar later traded around 160 yen, reflecting continued uncertainty over Japan’s currency outlook.
Market participants also continued to monitor reports that Japanese authorities intervened in the foreign exchange market on Thursday by purchasing yen and selling dollars in an effort to slow the currency’s depreciation.
Analysts, however, believe intervention alone is unlikely to provide lasting support without additional monetary tightening from the central bank.
Bank of Japan Signals Future Rate Hikes
Although the Bank of Japan left interest rates unchanged, Governor Kazuo Ueda indicated that policymakers remain prepared to raise borrowing costs if inflation continues to strengthen.
The central bank acknowledged that inflation risks remain tilted to the upside, suggesting that further policy tightening remains possible if economic conditions support additional action.
Markets interpreted the comments as a sign that Japan’s ultra loose monetary policy may gradually move toward normalization.
Geopolitical Risks Continue to Cloud Outlook
Despite improving confidence in technology stocks, investors remain cautious as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to create uncertainty across global markets.
Crude oil prices have climbed steadily throughout July, with Brent crude heading toward its first monthly gain since March. Ongoing disruptions to shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz and security concerns around the Bab el Mandeb Strait continue to raise concerns about global energy supplies.
Higher oil prices have also fueled worries that inflation could remain elevated, complicating the outlook for central banks worldwide.
Bond Markets Watch Federal Reserve
In the United States, Treasury yields remained near multi year highs following the Federal Reserve’s latest policy meeting.
While the Fed kept interest rates unchanged earlier this week, investors remain uncertain about the timing of future rate cuts as inflation risks persist and energy prices continue to rise.
Market Outlook
Strong earnings from Microsoft and Amazon have helped restore confidence in the AI investment story, lifting technology shares and supporting global equity markets. However, uncertainty surrounding central bank policy, geopolitical tensions, and currency volatility continues to present challenges for investors.
The coming weeks will likely see markets closely monitoring additional corporate earnings, inflation data, Federal Reserve guidance, and developments in global energy markets to determine whether the current rally can be sustained.
